Cambodian Village Project

Nine members and family visited Cambodia in January as part of the World of Difference program. The club fundraised to provide funds for projects whilst they were there (no funds used on travel expenses). The group participated in the ‘World of Difference’ program and got firsthand experience of village life and schools.

Everyone who attended was deeply moved by the experience and efforts are in place to provide ongoing support.

  • Pigs were donated as foundation breeding stock.
  • Sports shirts and sporting equipment supplied to schools
  • Water filters were constructed and villagers trained in use of the moulds to make more filters.
  • Toys and education supplies were distributed to schools.
  • A sewing machine was donated.
  • Bikes donated.

Donations-In-Kind is a Rotary initiative to provide support to developing countries through the donations of goods and materials. On Saturday morning a group of members visited the DIK store in West Footscray to lend a hand and make a donation from the club of $750 to help with the cost of shipping containers. During the visit we sorted and stacked chairs on to pallets, helped sort boxes of stationary and library supplies, and unload mattresses into the store, prior to them being packed in containers. During the visit we saw other groups busily preparing goods for shipping to Somoa and Tanzania and packing a container for Fiji. DIK is a tremendous asset for Rotary and other organisations and a great way to get involved in hands-on helping out with aid to other countries. Operation Christmas Child

The club is an annual supporter of Operation Christmas Child which aims to brighten up the day for children in third world situations. It also enables Samaritans Purse to start discussions with village leaders on humanitarian projects such as improvements to water supplies.

This year our club partnered with the students in the Interact club at Manor Lakes College, and EarlyAct club at Baden Powell College in sending 150 ‘shoe-boxes’ .
